Planterville Turf Farms are built on the soil of a historic rice plantation. The rice grown here was so outstanding that it took first-place honors at the prestigious Paris Exposition in the 1850s. Robert Francis Withers Allston, a prominent South Carolinian, was well-known for his scientific approach to agriculture. He enhanced existing methods of rice cultivation, enabling him to increase yield and quality of the plantation's crops. His published papers and lectures on the subject established his reputation as an astute and learned planter, and the rice processing plant he helped to develop, Waverly Mills, was one of the most successful in the area. Allston set standards of quality and integrity remarkable in any age.
We bring the same tradition of excellence to the business of planting and harvesting turf grass. Grown from certified seed, and nourished by the fertile sandy-loam soil of the plantation, our grass grows up healthy and strong, with a lush beauty you have to see to believe. Please call to receive your personal tour. The Pee Dee River, once so crucial to the cultivation of rice, now provides a steady and dependable source of water delivered to our 400 acres of turf by a unique underground irrigation system especially designed for our farms. This is just one of the ways in which state of the art technology enhances the ideal growing conditions found at Plantersville. We also apply high standards to service, which means prompt, on-time deliveries, easy to install freshly cut sod, and a crew of skilled professionals to provide you with the most up-to-date information. |
